Headaches are one of the most common complaints in society today and the fifth most common reason for outpatient medical care. In the United States alone, over 45 million people experience chronic, recurring headaches.
Headache pain may be extremely intense, but most headaches are unrelated to structural neurologic disease. While some are related to life-threatening disorders, the vast majority of headaches are chronic and not related to neurologic dysfunction. More than 300 conditions can produce headaches, and for that reason precisely determining the cause of this pain can be a daunting task.
The key to making any diagnosis about the cause of headache pain is first to obtain a thorough history from the patient. Details about the pain, health conditions and life style choices may also be important headache contributing factors. A physical exam is needed and additional testing such as a CT scan, an MRI or an EEG may be ordered.
Headaches can be caused from referred pain from myofascial trigger points. Myofascial trigger points of the scalp, jaw, neck, shoulders and upper back refer pain to the head, face, and ear. These trigger points in the muscles under the back of the skull radiate pain to the back of the head, and around to the forehead.
Myofascial trigger points in other muscles in the back of the neck cause a slightly different pain pattern. Myofascial trigger points in the muscles of the scalp and forehead cause pain in other areas of the head. Trigger point therapy is an option that can stop or greatly reduce the occurrence of headaches, even for the most difficult cases.
It’s the combination of Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Acupuncture and Class 4K laser which are the key ingredients to getting results where others have failed. Some people go to a chiropractor and they adjust. Then they see a physical therapist for treatments. We combine Chiropractic and Physical Therapy then can also add nerve block, injections and trigger point therapy when needed. We don’t do either or – we combine treatments for optimal health.
