IV Nutrition Therapy FAQ

What is intravenous (IV) therapy?

IV therapy is a method of delivering vital fluids and micronutrients directly into the bloodstream. IV treatments offer patients many maximum absorption benefits: increased energy, improved sleep, enhanced recovery from athletic events or surgical procedures, superior immune support, anti-aging effects and stress relief.

Who administers and supervises IV treatments?

All IV treatments are designed and administered by one of our skilled medical practitioners. Our physicians conduct an interview and medical history screening with each patient prior to treatment. Depending on your issues a variety of lab tests may be ordered to for your custom IV treatment. The IV is delivered by our skilled nursing staff incident to your doctor’s orders.

Are there any negative side effects?

IV therapy is usually very well tolerated and therefore poses minimal health risks. There can be bruising and sometimes you can feel a slight burning, which is possible with any IV.

What is the difference between IV therapy and oral vitamins?

The key is absorption. A small percentage of oral vitamins are ultimately absorbed into the blood stream, and high doses of oral vitamins can cause irritation. An IV therapy treatment delivers 100% of each vitamin directly into the bloodstream, which is why patients experience an immediate effect and complete absorption.

Are IV treatments covered by insurance?

There are many cases where insurance does not cover these treatments. In some cases, treatments may be reimbursed if an insurer agrees the treatment is medically necessary and testing demonstrates medical need. But them again you are dealing with managed care guidelines and high deductibles and if this is deemed more preventative as the reason for the therapy, the chances are slim to none for any coverage.

Nutrition Therapy

Weight plays an important role in how we look and feel, but also in our health. Overweight is generally defined as having more body fat than is optimally healthy. Being overweight is a common condition, especially where lifestyles are sedentary. Individuals with a BMI (Body Mass Index) exceeding a healthy range have a much greater risk of medical issues.

It is common for dieters to have tried fad diets that may have short-term effects but does not lead to long-term weight loss and can often result in gaining back all of the lost weight and more in the longer term. Repeatedly losing and regaining weight (“weight cycling” or “yo-yo dieting”) may cause additional health problems beyond those associated with weight loss and being overweight.

Some people may find it difficult to lose weight on their own. For this reason, it is generally recommended that weight-loss diets not be attempted on their own but instead in combination with increased exercise, long-term planning and medically managed weight management. Our programs are tailored to your needs, abilities, and limitations. From the Doc - Food for Thought for You the Consumer

Human nature - 39 years in practice has taught me that if you are not feeling lousy, you tend to do nothing. That said, if you want to be proactive and preventative, let me share with you my top recommendations for taking some form of vitamin-nutrition supplements.

  1. You get what you pay for! Cheaper usually equals poor absorption so keep that in mind.
  2. Inflammatory foods are the #1 underlying cause of health issues and healthcare costs in this country. Vitamin C, Vitamin D and fish oils are supplements that will help the most with inflammation-related issues. As always a good multiple B complex is always needed to help reduce stress on the cells. Anything after these basic recommendations you are getting into condition specific supplements combinations and you need to give them up to 6 months to see changes.
  3. You the consumer have limited financial resources! Time and again, you will have to make the choice of spending your money on testing to try and pinpoint the cause and then run out of money on treatment. On average you could probably spend $200 to $1000 on special testing that insurance does not cover but really helps the provider pinpoint your problems. So, if feeling like crap, it might be: allergies, hypersensitivities, digestive problems, or detoxification issues. Following the 80/20 rule, the short answer is 98% of the time the answer lies in your gut and your “gut brain” is ticked off and throwing off your head brain and immune system.
  4. Be knowledgeable about testing.
    • The 3 best tests are saliva based, urine based and blood based. It’s important to get the right test. We use tests that are from external labs other than Quest Diagnostics or Lab Corp, these are fine basic medical testing labs but do not have the increased sensitivity parameters that the specialized labs have developed. We do specific function tests in clinic that cost around $200.
    • We also offer electrodermal screening tests – which uses Voll or Acupuncture points and are effective in pointing your care in the right direction for the underlying condition(s). These look at electrical imbalances not chemical imbalances. The technology we use includes: ZYTO or Spectra vision - these tests run under $200. During the scan, subtle energetic impulses are introduced to your body through multiple input channels including the hand cradle. Your body will naturally respond to this communication and the ZYTO software records each response.
    • Symptom surveys run around $50 to narrow down your health problems and are very good for following the 80/20 rule and to save you costs but are not very diagnostic. In other words you don’t get a very good base line to measure your changes and improvement from. So, you can still feel like crap even though your body is in recovery mode and healing. This is called the “healing crisis” of recovery. The net effect is you stop a process that is actually working.
  5. IV therapy requires a prescription and blood tests to ensure you are getting the right dosage and it is the MOST effective treatment for health restoration. The reason much better absorption directly into your cells and tissues. The other advantage is IV nutrition is pharmaceutical grade supplements and there is no problem with truth in labeling. You are paying for guaranteed quality and dosage. You may be better off spending $200 on IV therapy instead of pooping out $200 of supplements you didn’t absorb. Remember you may have the healthiest septic system in the country. Just food for thought.
